Echo Diastasis PH 79 Reference Edition Phono Pre
Phono preamplifiers are perhaps the most difficult audio device to design. A number of requirements must be met simultaneously, such as, high gain, low noise, accuracy in the RIAA curve, low distortion and high overload margin. At the same time, the music must flow effortlessly, naturally, while keeping alive all these special musical characteristics that a proper recording contains: analysis, transparency, depiction of stage and natural spaces, richness of harmonics, dynamics, clear description of low frequencies, highlight the special characteristics of delicate orchestrations, etc.
Various topologies have been proposed over the years, all of which have advantages and disadvantages. Our effort has resulted in a preamplifier that doesn't compromise in any of the critical areas and takes analog design one step further.
Ιn this product, an original topology is used that is the result of long-term research. In all passive phono preamplifier implementations additional gain is needed to compensate for the losses of the passive components that follow. This results in higher noise and distortion. In Echo Diastasis PH-79 Reference the RIAA curve is implemented with two active stages, which do not use global feedback. In active implementations, the gain at a certain frequency is as much as needed and no more. The option for a split RIAA gives more control and better accuracy. The two amplification stages are followed by a buffer stage with the ability to drive even the most difficult loads. The power supply uses specially designed EI core transformers to achieve maximum possible RF noise rejection from the dirty wall power. Selected semiconductors and integrated circuits, as well as, top quality passive components are used in the circuit. A high accuracy in the implementation of the RIAA curve is achieved by repeated measurements and value matching. Typically, four out of five components are thrown away in this demanding process.
Compared to the hugely successful previous version, the new version called PH-79 Reference has improvements in the following areas:
• reinforced, stiffer frame
• new redesigned front panel with easier to set switches
• double capacity in the power supply
• support the device on aluminum legs that offer vibration isolation
• two standby inputs so that the machine always stays on and ready to play
• redesigned PCB with shorter signal path
• high-quality internal low-capacity OCC wiring
• use of top quality materials at critical points which are controlled by continuous measurements at all stages of production
• new output devices that provide more current and can drive longer cables.
We at Echo Diastasis wouldn't offer another phono preamp on the market if we didn't think we could make a difference. The Echo Diastasis PH-79 Reference continues the tradition of its predecessor, achieving even more in the field of music playback. It is able to effortlessly extract even the smallest information engraved in the grooves of the vinyl record creating a huge and three-dimensional soundstage. The result is musical and precise at the same time. At Echo Diastasis we are confident that we have one of the best phono pre-amplifiers that anyone can buy regardless of price. Whether this is true hearing is believing!
